Spring Break Beauty Product Picks and Essentials

Winter is just getting started, but my thoughts have already turned to spring. And visions of a tropical getaway to Miami, Rio or Maui are dancing in my head. So here's a short list of Everything She Wants' must-have beauty picks and essentials to help you prep for and to bring on your next spring fling.

1. For a few weeks, I've been using the collagen boosting Eminence Citrus & Kale Potent C + E Serum (and masque) in tandem with Eminence's Stone Crop Hydrating Mist, illuminating Bright Skin Licorice Root Booster-Serum and nourishing Facial Recovery Oil, and my skin texture has a renewed youthful glow. The anti-aging products are good for all skin types, absorb quickly and are packed with effective, natural ingredients and antioxidants.

2. Dry feet aren't sexy nor are they sandal-ready. And Aquaphor Healing Ointment Advanced Therapy has done wonders on my coarse, cracked heels. The ointment will also intensely moisturize and rejuvenate any part of your skin that needs new life.

3. Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant comes in six fragrances and is the perfect lightweight protection for carefree resort days spent lounging on the beach or poolside.

4. Beauty starts from the inside out.  Before your getaway, strengthen your hair, skin and nails with Nature's Bounty Optimal Solutions Hair, Skin & Nails multivitamin infused with argan oil, 5000 mcg of biotin per serving, antioxidants A, C and E and hyaluronic acid.

5. Made with a gentle blend of honey, brown sugar, Tahitian vanilla and sweet nectar, I Smell Great Wild Honey hair fragrance delivers on its name. It also gently conditions and adds sheen to your hair. While you're on vacay, use it between workouts and spa treatments.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Comes to Brooklyn, June 5-8

Attending a performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is always a highlight of my arts and culture calendar. An engagement with this awe-inspiring and genre-bending dance company is even better when they perform close to home at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.                                                                                                                                         Photo: Danica Paulos Ailey’s long-standing relationship with BAM began in 1969 when the trailblazing choreographer established The Ailey School in Brooklyn and presented his company’s...

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Graces Brooklyn Academy of Music, June 4-9, 2024

Dance is expression. Dance is spiritual. Dance is activism. Dance is life. I feel most alive when I am listening to music and dancing.  As a spectator and fan, some of my fondest moments of watching dance performances have been witnessing the dignity and grace of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Every time I see the Ailey company, I am inspired, moved, and grounded in the beauty and complexity of the African American experience.  Photo by Paul Kolnik For me, the highlight is always "Revelations," Mr. Ailey's three-part ode to his upbringing in the Black Baptist church. The three sections -- "Pilgrim of Sorrow"; "Take Me to the Water"; and "Move, Members, Move" -- tell the story of African American faith and persistence from slavery to freedom. Over the weekend,  I had the pleasure of taking an outdoor Community Workshop in downtown Brooklyn, where we learned some of the choreography for "Revelations." I beamed from ear to ear...

DanceAfrica 2024 Returns to Brooklyn Academy of Music

The DanceAfrica Bazaar is one of my favorite annual street fairs. I love to watch folks show up and show out in their flyest Afrocentric garb and to shop for handmade beaded bracelets and earrings from the African vendors.  And when I'm fortunate enough to snag a ticket as I did this year courtesy of BAM, I enjoy watching the kinetic African dancers (this time the country featured is Cameroon) during the spirited and spirit-filled DanceAfrica performance at the Howard Gilman Opera House.   (Photos courtesy of BAM/Tony Turner) If you want to join in the fun, here's the weekend lineup that's truly for the culture.
