5 Celebrity Stylist Tips for the Perfect Red Carpet Look

Jennifer Lawrence was a winner and a head-turner in a stunning red Dior gown at the 2013 Golden Globe Awards.  To help every woman look and feel like an A-list starlet, celebrity stylist George Kotsiopoulos from E!'s Fashion Police, has a few tips:

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE RIGHT FOUNDATION

No matter how chic your outfit is, it’s important to get all the details right and that includes a stunning silhouette and beautifully moisturized skin. Make sure to use a body shaper under your dress (yes, we all need a little cinch now and then!) and get glowing skin with dermatologist tested Suave® Skin Solutions Advanced Therapy Body Lotion. It has rich hydrators that moisturize the skin’s surface to make skin smooth, soft and more beautiful. Plus, it is clinically proven to moisturize for up to 24 hours – so you can look fabulous from dawn ‘til dusk.
GET THE FIT RIGHT

The right tailoring can make or break an outfit. Most women have a hard time finding dresses that fit their bodies right off the rack. If you try on a gown and it pulls in all the wrong places, go a size larger and then find a good tailor to make it perfect for your body (pull in the waist, hug the hips, hem up the straps and any other details).
MAKE A STATEMENT – JUST ONE!

When we think about accessorizing, it is sometimes tough not to go overboard, but always remember that you need just one focal point with every award-winning outfit. If you’re wearing an elaborate dress, keep everything else very simple (including hair, make-up and accessories). On the other hand, if your dress is very simple, then pair with it elaborate jewels or dramatic hair and makeup so that you to really stand out.

BE BOLD WITH COLOR
Black is always chic (and safe).  But unless it’s over-the-top, it can be forgettable and that’s no way to win “best dressed” this season. Make an entrance by wearing a bold color that flatters your skin tone. We all have one color that elicits multiple compliments every time we wear it and that is your best color.

Of course, color will not truly shine if your skin doesn’t look radiant, so pair this bold look with Suave® Skin Solutions Smoothing Body Lotion with Cocoa Butter & Shea. It has a new, richer formula that instantly relieves dryness to soften rough, dry skin and replenishes moisture for up to 24 hours.

BE YOURSELF

Don’t worry about trends or what everyone else might be wearing. Use your own sense of style to choose an A-list ensemble. Wear what you feel confident in and what looks great on you; not only will you look amazing, but your confidence will radiate.

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Comes to Brooklyn, June 5-8

Attending a performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is always a highlight of my arts and culture calendar. An engagement with this awe-inspiring and genre-bending dance company is even better when they perform close to home at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.                                                                                                                                         Photo: Danica Paulos Ailey’s long-standing relationship with BAM began in 1969 when the trailblazing choreographer established The Ailey School in Brooklyn and presented his company’s...

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Graces Brooklyn Academy of Music, June 4-9, 2024

Dance is expression. Dance is spiritual. Dance is activism. Dance is life. I feel most alive when I am listening to music and dancing.  As a spectator and fan, some of my fondest moments of watching dance performances have been witnessing the dignity and grace of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Every time I see the Ailey company, I am inspired, moved, and grounded in the beauty and complexity of the African American experience.  Photo by Paul Kolnik For me, the highlight is always "Revelations," Mr. Ailey's three-part ode to his upbringing in the Black Baptist church. The three sections -- "Pilgrim of Sorrow"; "Take Me to the Water"; and "Move, Members, Move" -- tell the story of African American faith and persistence from slavery to freedom. Over the weekend,  I had the pleasure of taking an outdoor Community Workshop in downtown Brooklyn, where we learned some of the choreography for "Revelations." I beamed from ear to ear...

DanceAfrica 2024 Returns to Brooklyn Academy of Music

The DanceAfrica Bazaar is one of my favorite annual street fairs. I love to watch folks show up and show out in their flyest Afrocentric garb and to shop for handmade beaded bracelets and earrings from the African vendors.  And when I'm fortunate enough to snag a ticket as I did this year courtesy of BAM, I enjoy watching the kinetic African dancers (this time the country featured is Cameroon) during the spirited and spirit-filled DanceAfrica performance at the Howard Gilman Opera House.   (Photos courtesy of BAM/Tony Turner) If you want to join in the fun, here's the weekend lineup that's truly for the culture.
