David's Bridal Has Fun, Flirty and Fab Party Dresses for Fall 2011

Everything She Wants wishes the David's Bridal store in Manhattan was open when I exchanged "I do's."  The budget-friendly brand offers a bevy of beautiful wedding dresses that start at $299 (with many on sale for under $100), and are available from size 0 to 16 and 16W to 26W for plus-size brides.  Designer gowns by Vera Wang (White by Vera Wang), Oleg Cassini and Galina are priced higher.

Stylist Nicole Brewer works with David's Bridal and walked me through an exclusive blogger preview at the spacious, light-filled Chelsea store. New for fall 2011, David's Bridal introduced the modern DB Studio Collection inspired by the hottest looks from the red carpet and the biggest royal wedding in decades. So get your Kate and Pippa replicas online and at select DB stores.

Me in dress pick #1 with stylist Nicole Brewer.

The biggest surprise, however, is the brand's stylish selection of special occasion and party dresses that start at just $79.99.  Brewer noted that since sizes range from 2 to 26 you'll find pretty frocks that flatter all shapes and sizes.

"David's Bridal is a fashion destination," the style expert said while flipping through the racks. "You have younger Kardashian looks, little black dresses, and little white dresses."  Brewer said other hot trends for fall include metallic colors, one-shoulder and lingerie-inspired looks, and pockets and origami folds.

For accessories, fascinators -- small hats adorned with feathers, flowers and bows -- are the must-have accessory for brides and party girls.  David's Bridal also offers many options for funky shoes and clutches.

My David's Bridal dress pick!

As part of the blogger preview, I had the chance to select a party dress and my top two picks were a tiered, little black crinkle chiffon dress ($158) from White by Vera Wang and a strapless, belted metallic dress with pockets ($149).  In the end, I chose the flirty gold dress and reminded myself that I should show a little leg more often.

Memorial Day Summer Swimsuits in the Amazon.com Swim Shop!

Memorial Day weekend is right around the corner.   Do you have your new summer swimsuit yet?  If not, Everything She Wants recommends checking out Amazon.com's  Amazon Swim Shop . Me at the Amazon Swim Shop preview. The online shop is stocked year-round with trendy and timeless swimsuit styles, cover ups and swim accessories from your favorite brands. While I'm usually partial to the figure-flattering tankini, at a press preview for the Amazon Swim Shop, I noticed that the often unforgiving one-piece suit has made a compelling comeback. Thanks to a generous gift card from Amazon I took a chance and ordered a Calvin Klein one-piece in a pretty nude/coral "Sand" color, along with several bohemian tunics. Now here's your turn.    One lucky reader will receive a promo code for $100 to spend at the Amazon Swim Shop (qualifying items must be sold and shipped directly by Amazon and not a third-party seller). Here's how you can win ( you must comp...

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Comes to Brooklyn, June 5-8

Attending a performance of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is always a highlight of my arts and culture calendar. An engagement with this awe-inspiring and genre-bending dance company is even better when they perform close to home at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.                                                                                                                                         Photo: Danica Paulos Ailey’s long-standing relationship with BAM began in 1969 when the trailblazing choreographer established The Ailey School in Brooklyn and presented his company’s...

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Graces Brooklyn Academy of Music, June 4-9, 2024

Dance is expression. Dance is spiritual. Dance is activism. Dance is life. I feel most alive when I am listening to music and dancing.  As a spectator and fan, some of my fondest moments of watching dance performances have been witnessing the dignity and grace of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Every time I see the Ailey company, I am inspired, moved, and grounded in the beauty and complexity of the African American experience.  Photo by Paul Kolnik For me, the highlight is always "Revelations," Mr. Ailey's three-part ode to his upbringing in the Black Baptist church. The three sections -- "Pilgrim of Sorrow"; "Take Me to the Water"; and "Move, Members, Move" -- tell the story of African American faith and persistence from slavery to freedom. Over the weekend,  I had the pleasure of taking an outdoor Community Workshop in downtown Brooklyn, where we learned some of the choreography for "Revelations." I beamed from ear to ear...
