7 Fall Fashion Trends You Already Own

I usually love summer, but the heat was on too high this year.  So I'm looking forward to fall.  Fall tends to be a more formal season, so it's a time for me to show off my crisp and cool back-to-school best (okay, I finished school a long time ago).

The good news is that we already own many of the top trends of the season.  Here's what to look for when you put away your summer garb and unpack your fall favorites:

Belted trench coat:  This look is practical and classic.  I found my knee-length navy blue trench last year on the sale rack at Old Navy.

Slouchy cardigan: I practically lived in my slouchy cardigans last season. This fall the style has been updated with button details, but the flowy, wrap version is still en vogue.

Plaid and gingham shirts:  Whether yours is comfy cotton, flannel or rayon, plaid and gingham shirts have survived yet another season.

Tuxedo or boyfriend blazer: A well-tailored blazer is the perfect way to pull any look together.  The tuxedo blazer with wide, satin-y lapels is an old trend that's new again.  And you can still rock your trusty boyfriend blazer from last season.

Boyfriend jeans: I finally got a pair of these slim around the ankle boyfriend jeans with strategic rips.  Mine were a gift from Charlotte Russe.

Animal print: When worn sparingly this trend can jazz up any outfit. I'm a fan of leopard print flats with a basic black dress or an animal print scarf with jeans.

Lace-up boots: I love this kinder, gentler take on the combat boot.  I scooped up a faux leather pair by Wanted for $40!

Conway Discount Clothing Chain Closing in New York City

(Tracy E. Hopkins) It's the end of a budget shopping era. Conway discount stores are closing in New York City . As of this weekend, a sign on the sole Herald Square location (34th Street btwn 7th and 8th Ave) says the store will close in "7 Days." Before I relocated to the Big Apple, I was introduced to the discount chain while on a bus trip from Baltimore.  I recall the first time I saw Conway's signature pink bags carried by hurried shoppers in midtown. And Miss Foster, the trip organizer and a bargain hunter from way back, took me to the store for the first time. Conway store in the Fulton Mall./Tracy E. Hopkins When I moved here in 1994, my love affair with Conway continued.  I furnished my first apartment with discount knick-knacks and home goods from the store.  And much to my chagrin, in hindsight, I curated most of my wardrobe for my first full-time job from the long-shuttered 42nd Street and Third Avenue store. One regretful ensemble: Lime green and...
