New Designer Spotlight: Rae Francis Mixes Edgy and Feminine

Rae Francis designers Ariel Lilly and Christina Coniglio describe their made in New York City line as "uptown chic meets downtown cool." "[We mix] feminine pieces with hardness," says Ariel, who explains the brand's name is a combination of Ariel's middle name and Christina's father's name. Beaded bracelets with gemstones and spiritual figurine charms are perfect for any season.  Pile on a few like these energy bead bracelets by Debbie Merle Designs for a dramatic effect. 4 Summer Fashion Trends: Hot or Not?

Fashion is subjective.  So many of you may love the trends I'm about to bash.  Admittedly, some of these trends have been embraced by women far younger than me, so that may be the disconnect....or maybe these looks just err on the side of tacky?  In an homage to my former blog, Hot Mama Daily , I want to know what my Everything She Wants ' readers think.  Are these summer 2012 trends hot or not? On the right woman, the cutout shirt trend can look sexy chic and not trashy.  But toned arms and un-sweaty pitts are a must. Who wears short shorts?  Not me.  And if you do, I beg you to stop. Please don't wear a crop top unless your belly is as flat as the model in this photo.  Or better yet, if you're over the age of eight, skip the crop tops and midriffs altogether.  Wedge sneakers are a hipster trend for summer into the fall/holiday season, but I can't decide whether I love 'em or hate 'em. Box Braids, A Hot Hair Trend for Summer

Remember back in the '90s when wearing box braids was all the rage? I sported a box-braided bob from 1993 until at least 1998, and probably wouldn't have stopped if my hair hadn't started thinning in the crown and around the edges.  Now all of a sudden, box braids are back, especially the long and thick style popularized by Janet Jackson in the 1993 flick, Poetic Justice .  The film was dreadful, but we all remember Janet's jinglin' baby braids. Janet Jackson's iconic braids in 1993's Poetic Justice . Solange Knowles wearing the retro braid style in 2012. Everything She Wants recently spotted a striking young woman and asked her about her Poetic Justice -reminiscent hairdo.  Her name is Adrienne Green (see last two photos) and she's been wearing long box braids for about four months.  Before adopting box braids as her signature summer look, the 22-year-old wore her own hair in double-strand twists.
