Eyebrow Threading Tips from Hibba NYC

Whether you've tried eyebrow threading before or you've been waiting to try it, you have to check out Hibba NYC .  Run by Hibba Kapil, the cozy Soho salon is filled with the sounds of traditional Indian music and adorned with wooden furniture, colorful cushions, and statues of the half-man/half-elephant Hindi god Ganesh (remover of obstacles). Growing up in India, Hibba learned the art of threading at 13. She would thread for her family and friends and soon became the go-to-girl in her small town. Hibba moved to the U.S. at 17 and soon after put herself through college at New York City's Baruch College. With a degree in finance, she realized her dream to open her own salon in 2010. Hibba's goal is to offer the best and the most natural services in hair removal. Reducing our carbon footprint is a high priority for Hibba. She also understands the value of great customer service and community. During my appointment with the eyebrow wiz, she quickly shaped my eyebrows ...

Browhaus, New York City's New Brow Shaping Salon

The holiday season means a busy social calendar. So you have to look good from head to toe, including your eyebrows. Browhaus (56 Spring Street, 212-431-1124), a new brow salon in New York City's trendy Nolita nabe, will hook you up. I visited the modern, industrial-looking salon for a Browgraphy ($38 -$42), which includes shaping and a color tweak.  Browhaus' styling chairs recline all the way back, so your neck and feet are comfortably supported.  If you've ever had your eyebrows threaded (you have to hold your head back and lift part of your brow so the stylist can reach all angles), you know this makes a big difference. Then your brows are expertly shaped by threading, tweezing, or a combination of the two.  Once the shaping is done, the stylist blends in matching color to fill in your brows.  Goodbye daily eye pencil; the color tweak lasts for about a month.  My eyebrows haven't looked this good in months. My beautiful Browhaus brows. Browhaus ...

Best Place to Get Your Eyebrows Shaped in NYC

If you want perfectly shaped eyebrows without the hassle of waxing or tweezing, it's time to visit  Shobha .  The New York City salon has locations in Soho ( 594 Broadway, 212.931.8363 ), midtown  ( 41 E. 57th Street, 212.223.2872 ), and Columbus Circle ( 3 Columbus Circle, 212.977.7771 ).  The downtown location's India-inspired interior is bathed in warm hues of orange, red, and gold.  You'll recline in a barber's chair while a Shobha specialist shapes your brows specifically to frame your face. The sewing thread pinches a little, but that mild discomfort is a small price to pay for beautiful brows.  Shobha's technicians are experts at the brow grooming technique that's been practiced by women in India for generations. During a visit with Shobha's resident hair removal guru Anjali, she told me I have an oval face shape (the most coveted facial shape by the way). Based on that angular shape, I should always ask for more rou...

Got Acne? Try Shobha's Rosewater Toner

Maybe it's hormonal, a change in the seasons, or my pillow cases.  But my skin has been breaking out like crazy lately. Or maybe I'm testing too many skin care products.  One product, however, that I've recently become fond of is Shobha's Rosewater Toner  ($22). Shobha is an expert hair removal salon in New York City with several locations .  The toner naturally reduces skin irritation, so it's perfect after eyebrow threading or waxing.  Besides rose water, the ingredients include purified water, witch hazel, and flower oil. I use it as a facial toner, but it can be used to freshen up any body part ( okay, not that one ). Image credit: Shobha
