Fashion Week's Spring/Summer 2011 Trend Forecast

Hopefully you've had a chance to check out my Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 coverage on  Fashion Week Examiner . My latest write-up is a fashion trend forecast based on the shows I saw and the coverage I read.  From menswear to ladylike silhouettes and bold colors and prints, sartorially speaking this spring we have plenty to look forward to. Here's a breakdown of some of the upcoming season's major trends: Animal Print: Christian Siriano took the evergreen trend to the next level with subtle prints and red reptilian separates. Men’s Wear: Lacoste gives the season’s masculine look a fresh spin with a crisp white shirt and pants with a skinny black tie. Ethnic prints: Gwen Stefani was obviously inspired by African textiles and fabrics for L.A.M.B.’s Spring/Summer 2011.   Sophisticated Lady: Jill Stuart ’s timeless, classic silhouettes are perfect for big city girls everywhere. Bold Color: Prabal Gurung (top photo of blue dress) and Milly by Mi

6 Must-Have Items in My Fashion Week Beauty Survival Kit

Fashion Week was fun.   Sort of .  While I saw several good and a couple great runway shows ( Christian Siriano and Monique Lhuillier ), I'm not in love with the Lincoln Center locale.  And despite my dogged efforts, I never received the press goodie bag, which is partially why I pay for registration each season ( lesson learned; next season I will rely on invitations ). What I do love, however, is all of the new beauty swag I picked up: Patyka Green Tangerine Hair & Body Wash   ($26) from France is made from organic green tangerine oil.  The aromatic, organic shower gel leaves my skin silky smooth and smelling subtly fresh and fruity. Spanx Tight-End Tights ($28) come to my rescue every Fashion Week.  I don't think there's a better pair of tights on the market.  They come in stylish patterns and colors, and provide tummy, thigh, and rear-end control. Victoria's Secret Bombshell Eau de Parfum ($45) is a glam blend of purple passion fruit, Shangr

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011, Day 1

Photo credit: Tracy E. Hopkins A funny thing happened to me on the way to my first show at Fashion Week's new location at Lincoln Center.  I discovered that my new shoes -- a cute pair of black suede flats with a slight wedge heel ( okay, they're from Payless, so they're not that major ) -- were too big. I'd already made a few last minute wardrobe changes and under estimated the time it would take me to get from downtown Brooklyn to Lincoln Center.  Bryant Park was a breeze and takes about 20 minutes.  Lincoln Center is farther uptown, so that adds another 10 minutes to my commute. So I was running late for Christian Siriano's S/S 2011 runway presentation .  But adrenaline kicked in and somehow I kept my shoes on long enough to catch the train.  I arrived and scurried across the grand plaza, past the iconic fountain.  " This is different ," I thought. Thankfully one thing that hasn't changed are the burly security guards who have been working th

10 Places in New York City Offering Eats and Treats for Fashion’s Night Out

Are you ready for Fashion's Night Out on Friday, Sept. 10? I am.  And this time I've done my homework. There was plenty of bubbly popping last FNO, and I'm not complaining. But this girl can only drink so much sparkling wine and I spent more time looking for stores offering snacks than I did shopping. So from midtown ( Banana Republic , Rockefeller Center) to downtown (Scoop NYC, Meatpacking District), I've prepared a list of "10 Places in New York City offering eats and treats for Fashion's Night Out." Need New Shoes for Fall? Why Not Call It Spring

I desperately needed new shoes for Fashion week, so the invite to attend an exclusive blogger event for Call It Spring shoes was right on time.  This sister company to Aldo Shoes has 200 store locations in the U.S., Canada, Asia and the Middle East, and the frenzied event was at New York City's first Call It Spring store in the Manhattan Mall. Call It Spring oxfords, $39.99 Blogger Meghann Early (r) and friend. Thanks to a generous $150 gift card, I was able to shop and test drive the budget savvy brand's merchandise.  My friend,  The Thrifty Fashionista blogger Meghann Early, pointed out a cute pair of oxford flats ($39.99).  She opted for a pair in gray and I snagged a pair in black (they also come in funky black and white, pictured above).   The store also has plenty of trendy bootie styles and I picked out a faux-suede, black Granny bootie that laces up the front ($49.99).  With about $60 left to spend, I found a basic black hobo ($39.99) I plan to use immed
