Winter Skincare Tips for Ethnic Skin from 303 Face I Body

Winter weather is harsh on your skin -- often leaving you with dehydrated skin on your face, chapped lips and brittle cracked feet. Not a pretty picture. But there are steps you can take to keep your skin supple and moisturized. To help you get a summertime glow, even during a snow storm, Everything She Wants chatted with 303 Face | Body founder Marci Lundy about her products and her winter skincare regimen.

Everything She Wants: What motivated you to start your own skincare business?

Marci Lundy: After moving to Colorado from Southern California in 2010, my skin was screaming for moisture!! Although beautiful, the state of Colorado leaves your skin horribly dry. The products that I used in California were a no-go here in Colorado. I took the knowledge that I already had about shea butter and aloe vera and began creating body balm blends, as well as doing a lot of homework on a myriad of oils and butters. Over the course of a year, I began testing the products on both my husband and I, making products for friends in exchange of their honest feedback.

ESW: What is the significance of the name 303 Face | Body?

Marci: The ‘303’ in 303 Face | Body is the main area code for Denver, Colorado, where I currently reside. I thought it was very fitting, because that is the birthplace of my idea to begin the company. 303 Face | Body was the ultimate winner after an assortment of name changes. Originally the name was.. get this.. 303 Dolls Face and Body, by Montage by Marci. Hah! That was because I was incorporating my photography company into the name of the skincare line.

I also wanted people that used products from 303 Face | Body to be referred to as 303 Dolls, which ultimately I do refer to them as that, and occasionally use that as one of the companies hashtags. As far as marketing, labels, and sensibility, I figured simplicity was best, and as the company gained popularity, I felt that 303 Face | Body was the best name.

ESW: When it comes to ethnic skin care, what are a few of the most important ingredients black women need for our skin?

Marci: Moisture. Moisture. Moisture. Shea butter and aloe vera are so valuable in keeping skin supple, free of dryness, and helping to radiate our skin's natural glow. Drinking a sufficient amount of water is very important of course, but if you’re not also proactive in making sure to moisturize your skin on the outside with nourishing butters and balms in a consistent skincare regimen.. it will show.

ESW: Your photography is showcased with your product shots on Etsy. How long have you been a photographer?

Marci: My dad bought my first camera at age seven, and the rest is history. The ability to capture a structure, flower, or something as simple as a crack in a sidewalk in a way that others may never have noticed prior to seeing your photography is just as rewarding as being able to offer someone a skincare moisturizer that will heal a persistent skincare issue they’ve had. The last ten years, I’ve been an active freelance photographer. I take countless photos every day; it’s simply in my blood.

ESW: Please give my readers a few winter skincare tips and which of your products can be used to achieve the best results.

Marci: Moisturize everyday, all through the day.. hourly! If you’re checking your Facebook or Instagram feed, you can take the Everything Balm by 303 Face | Body out of your purse and have a mini self care session of moisturizing in a snap.

Dry and cracked winter lips are an absolute nightmare. Make sure you’re free and clear from that negative experience by having the Icy Lemonade Lip Creme by 303 Face | Body in tow at all times.

While temps are cold and winds are brutal, start and end your day with a consistent skincare regimen. The Poppy Block Soap by 303 Face | Body for washing your face, and Euca-Visage Eucalyptus Gel for after face washing moisture.

Lastly, make sure not to overlook your body just because its covered in layers of clothing during the winter! The Hot Stone Therapy Bar and Fusion Face + Body Oil from 303 Face | Body will ensure that your skin stays undeniably soft during the wintertime and beyond.

ESW: Where can people purchase your products?

Marci: I'm on Etsy. You can also find 303 Face | Body products at 303facebodyorganics.com. And I’m currently in the process of working with boutiques in New York and Florida. One of the most delightful gifts for me in launching this company has been the ability to share and introduce 303 Face | Body products to others.

We should all feel our best and most confident in our own skin, and this natural skincare line is meant to heal and nourish skin so that foundation and powder are no longer needed. You can comfortably be free of any sort of cover up. There is also a brow moisturizer that helps strengthen and thicken brows.. it's all about, “Pure. You.” That is the companies slogan.

Conway Discount Clothing Chain Closing in New York City

(Tracy E. Hopkins) It's the end of a budget shopping era. Conway discount stores are closing in New York City . As of this weekend, a sign on the sole Herald Square location (34th Street btwn 7th and 8th Ave) says the store will close in "7 Days." Before I relocated to the Big Apple, I was introduced to the discount chain while on a bus trip from Baltimore.  I recall the first time I saw Conway's signature pink bags carried by hurried shoppers in midtown. And Miss Foster, the trip organizer and a bargain hunter from way back, took me to the store for the first time. Conway store in the Fulton Mall./Tracy E. Hopkins When I moved here in 1994, my love affair with Conway continued.  I furnished my first apartment with discount knick-knacks and home goods from the store.  And much to my chagrin, in hindsight, I curated most of my wardrobe for my first full-time job from the long-shuttered 42nd Street and Third Avenue store. One regretful ensemble: Lime green and
