Holiday 2012 Fashion from LOFT: Stripes, Color and Cats

I consider myself as a LOFT Girl -- trendy yet timeless; casual yet chic. Everything She Wants has been lucky enough to attend LOFT  press previews for several years, and I'm a fan of any brand that perennially celebrates stripes (a staple in my wardrobe). Here's a sneak peek from the accessible fashion brand's vibrant holiday collection (in stores this fall): Every girl needs a striped tee or two or three...and LOFT has them in lots of  shades that pop. Comfy cable-knit and striped sweaters, and colored skinny cords will spice up your holiday wardrobe. From the office to brunch, colorful ballet flats are a must for the  holiday season. This little black dress with a playful pink cat print is at the top of my holiday shopping wish list. Photos by Tracy E. Hopkins All styles available at LOFT stores nationwide & at LOFT.com.

Healthy Diet Tips: Should You Go Gluten-Free?

Gluten-free has been a diet buzzword for several years.   But what does it mean ?   The gluten-free diet was specifically designed for people with celiac disease (an intolerance of wheat, rye and barley).   Celebs who can’t stomach wheat include Miley Cyrus and Elisabeth Hasselbeck.   Since wheat is in everything from bread and pasta to sauces and salad dressing, registered dietician Constance Brown-Riggs, advises that going gluten-free shouldn't be a trend or fad diet. “It’s not a weight loss diet.   It’s not low in carbs, and many people have gained weight instead of losing weight on a gluten-free diet,” says Brown-Riggs.   “If you don’t have celiac disease, you may have sensitivity to gluten; but unless you’ve been diagnosed with gluten intolerance, you don’t have to avoid gluten.”   Dr. Rhonda Medows, a chief medical officer and executive vice president for UnitedHealth, says that celiac disease is often confused with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).   That's

Does Your Cheap Jewelry Contain Lead?

Scouring street fairs, flea markets and discount shops for cheap, chunky costume jewelry is kinda our thing. As a sometime sidewalk sale seller and Etsy store owner, we’ve even sold thread earrings made in Brazil and Peru.  Street fair jewelry is cheap, but is if safe?/Photo by Tracy E. Hopkins Lately, however, we’ve noticed the label " lead compliant " on some of our fashion jewelry finds. But what does that mean? To get the skinny on lead compliance and what we should look for and avoid when shopping for budget costume jewelry, Everything She Wants asked two jewelry experts/medical doctors – Alexis Gopal and Matilde Parente -- for their tips. Everything She Wants : What does it mean when jewelry says, "lead compliant?"   Alexis Gopal : The term "lead compliant" means that the piece of jewelry conforms to the standards set forth by the Consumer Product Safety Information Act , which was signed into law in 2008. It set limits on the am

Win a Free Pair of Perfect Fit Jeans from Eddie Bauer!

Finding the right pair of jeans is one of the hardest shopping endeavors ever.  For me, flared styles tend to work best since I'm smaller in the waist and fuller in the hips.  But thanks to Eddie Bauer's new denim line -- which launches online and at Eddie Bauer stores everywhere Aug. 6 -- I've found a petite pair of straight jeans that fit my curves perfectly.   Eddie Bauer denim./Photo by Tracy E. Natural Hair Care for Black Hair with Kinky-Curly Products

I'm so proud of my hair.  It's finally grown to a length where I feel comfortable wearing it out in double strand twists and a twist-out without the assistance of added hair.  Thanks to my new natural hair stylist who put in a luscious dark brown color by Clairol, trimmed and twists my hair every four to six weeks, my hair is glowing and growing. Me and my double-strand twists. But Everything She Wants also has to give major credit to the tried-and-true and new Kinky-Curly products I was gifted, which help me condition and re-twist my own hair in between appointments with newfound ease.  The products are made with all-natural, organic ingredients and formulated to add moisture and hold without drying out your hair. Here's the Kinky-Curly regimen that's worked wonders for me this summer: Wash with the sulfate-free shampoo, Come Clean , made with a blend of Mandarin Orange extract and Sea Kelp. Add Knot Today to wet hair as a leave-in conditioner.  This i

Olympian Hair Protection with Philip Kingsley Swimcap

Chlorine, salt water and sun exposure can dry out your luscious locks, so protect and moisturize your hair with Philip Kingsley Swimcap ($36). Originally created for the US Olympic Synchronized Swimming team to shield their hair from constant contact with chlorine, we can also use the super conditioning treatment to tame our tresses in and out of the pool. For best results, apply in sections to dampened hair and work through evenly before exposure to the sun.   Everything She Wants hasn't tried Swimcap yet, but I have used Philip Kingsley Elasticizer  ($47) -- a pre-shampoo, deep conditioning treatment that leaves my hair unbelievably soft and tangle-free. Philip Kingsley is the leading authority in hair and scalp health and his products are available   online  and at his trichological clinics in London and New York.
