Eco-Friendly Bag Crush: Evolve45

Everything She Wants will be on the road a lot this summer, so I need a good travel handbag.  And I have a new fashion crush on the eco-friendly bag line, Evolve45.

Made by sustainable designer Sara Marston, the theme behind Evolve45 is if everyone could evolve their consumption slightly -- about forty-five degrees -- the result would be a cleaner, safer environment.

Marston's luxury handbags are made with natural materials including the finest, Italian vegetable-tanned leather.  Evolve45 also offers non-leather bags made with "green" fabrics and 100% organic cotton linings.  Styles (see below) include satchels, hobos, and cross-body bags.  Prices start at $198.

Beauty Makeover with Christopher Drummond Beauty Products

During a weekend getaway to the peaceful Lodge at Woodloch in the Poconos, Everything She Wants got a beauty makeover by celeb makeup artist Christopher Drummond.  The former model and actor has his own line of products --  Christopher Drummond Beauty -- made with a combination of all natural, organic-based, paraben-free and vegan-approved ingredients .  The line's signature products are infused with an exclusive blend of Brazilian Açai, botanical extracts, and trace minerals, and titanium dioxide-free products are also available for those with sensitive skin.
Check out this cool video (if I do say so myself) to see my red carpet-worthy makeover.

Chico's Summer Fashion Accessories are Statement Jewelry

My mother has great style and she loves Chico's.  But I always thought of the chain as a "mature" brand and didn't think I'd want to shop there until I was much older.

Well, what a difference a little dress up exercise can make.  At a Chico's accessories styling event, Everything She Wants got to flex her personal style with some surprisingly trendy pieces.  I was given a basic white Chico's blouse and dolled it up with some handpicked statement jewelry.

I love the chunky silver and wooden necklace and the wooden hoops and bracelet I'm wearing in the photo to the left.  The accessories are on trend with the ethnic/tribal vibe popular for spring and summer.

Watch my video below to find out why I'm so Chico's.

3 Summer Fashion Trends Not to Wear on Father's Day...or Ever

Everything She Wants and your Dad would love to see these summer fashions take a vacation far, far away from the urban landscape...

Maxi dresses: These ankle-sweeping dresses can look sweet, but shouldn't be worn unless you're on holiday in a tropical climate or going to a cookout.  Hey, I'm guilty of this fashion offense too.  I recently wore my cute tie-dye maxi dress to a press event, but in hindsight I think the look was too beach-y and informal.

Moccasins:  Please don't wear suede shoes lined with faux fur in summer. It just doesn't make sense. And aren't your feet hot?

Crop tops: I like the idea of crop tops, but unless you're a professional dancer (or welder-by-day and stripper-by-night a la Flashdanceare they ever really flattering?

Cool Summer Skin with Paprika Hot Stimulating Peel!

File this under bright ideas.  On a 90-plus degree afternoon in New York City Everything She Wants visited Cecilia Wong Skincare (215 Park Avenue) for a 30-minute Paprika Hot Stimulating Peel ($100), made with paprika, red pepper and cayenne pepper.

Cecilia Wong
The peel tingled a bit and my face did feel hot initially. But the pepper mixture helps to stimulate the skin and improve circulation.  It also plumps and hydrates, so I knew it would be worth a little discomfort.  After she applied the peel, Cecilia gave me a LED Light Therapy treatment.  She used a blue light, which kills bacteria, unclogs pores and to help fades acne scars.

Although it sounds like it would have the opposite effect, the peel actually made my face cooler the rest of the day. After every treatment with Cecilia, I can instantly see and feel the results.  Her passion for skin care began at an early age because of her own problem skin.  And she discovered that consuming and using organic ingredients on the skin will keep us healthy inside and out.

I love that Cecilia Wong Skincare uses organic products infused with botanicals and herbs, and the salon recently launched a holistic skin care line.

Sunbow Sunscreen Protects Kids, Meets New FDA Regulations

This summer there's a lot of buzz about sunscreen.  Under new FDA regulations, sunscreen products must protect against both UVA and UVB rays equally to be able to carry the “broad spectrum” label.  According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, sunburn is primarily caused by UVB rays, while UVA rays cause skin cancer and premature aging.
What's really news to Everything She Wants is that the FDA also introduced a proposed rule that would limit the maximum SPF value on sunscreen labels to 50+.  Turns out, sunscreen above SPF 50 has not been proven to be any more effective in preventing sunburn, premature aging or skin cancer.
So parents can feel confident in using Sunbow sunscreen products ($7.99 - $12.99) on their kids (and themselves).  Sunbow's cleverly packaged products have Nickelodeon characters Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob Square Pants on the cover, and are made with all-natural, hypoallergenic, paba free ingredients that offer SPF 30 or higher sun protection.
The Sunbow Zinc Oxide Cream offers natural UVA and UVB protection and comes in a Dora the Explorer formula that goes on pink and a Spongebob formula that goes on yellow; both magically become clear after applying.  Other products in the line include the bubble gum-fragrance Sunbow Sunscreen Spray (SPF 30) and Sunbow Sun Stick (SPF 45).
Look for Sunbow products at a drugstore near you or online at drugstore.com.

Amy Bubes Sterling Silver Jewelry is Everything She Wants

Some women are addicted to designer shoes and handbags. But Everything She Wants' fashion obsession and biggest splurge is on jewelry; especially sterling silver.

So I was thrilled to discover Amy Bubes Jewelry at a Southern designer showcase.  Amy's earrings, bracelets and necklaces are simply chic and can be easily worn with jeans and a basic tee or your fave summer party dress.

Designer Amy Bubes
I caught up with the Maryland native who lives in Atlanta via email to discuss her line, which is sold in select stores and online at Fragments.

Everything She Wants: How long have you been designing jewelry and what is your design philosophy?

Amy Bubes: I have always been a very creative person, and for the past 20 years channeled my creativity through raising my three daughters. Like most women, I love jewelry and have always been fascinated as to how it was created. I began metalsmithing and designing jewelry four years ago and launched Amy Bubes Jewelry exactly two years ago.

Jewelry is one of those wonderful accessories women keep in their wardrobes, unlike clothing and shoes which change due to styles and sizes. My designs are meant to be mixed with some of a woman’s favorite pieces -- expensive or not -- to change a look and freshen it up.  Think silver worn with a strand of pearls, chunky gemstones, leather, horn or wood… or even with inexpensive trendy pieces of the moment.

A woman who “mixes” the elements of her look is confident, sophisticated and definitely has her own sense of style.

ESW: Why did you chose to work with Argentium Sterling Silver, and how does it differ from traditional Sterling?

AB: Argentium® is a relatively new formulation of Sterling Silver that was developed in 1996. It is a higher grade of Sterling Silver, so it is a bit more expensive which may be the reason it is not used as often by designers.  I think the benefits far outweigh the costs, and I only use Argentium®.  It's harder, brighter and tarnish-free since it contains less copper than traditional Sterling.

Amy Bubes Argentium Sterling Silver hoops, $200
This also makes Argentium® a more responsible silver, which is both appealing to the consumer and the designer. The reasons are obvious for the consumer; as for the designer, manufacturing time and not having to use toxic chemicals to remove firestain are a tremendous benefit. I see a difference between the traditional and Argentium® Sterling Silver, and prefer only to use the Argentium®.

ESW: Why do you think there are so many talented designers in the Atlanta area?

AB: Although Atlanta is traditionally known as a Southern city, it really is a melting pot of people from all over the country due to the many large companies headquartered here. When there’s an influx of people in any area, it creates a community with a variety of backgrounds and talents.

Atlanta is also a treasure trove of art, design and music. So when you combine those assets with the nice weather, I think it nurtures a culture where people feel inspired to think “out of the box” and be more creative.

Forever 21 Fall 2011 Fashion Trends

Since many schools haven't even let out for the summer, I know it's too early to think about back-to-school shopping.

But at least Forever 21 gives us something to look forward to.  The affordable retailer has all the trends we need for the fall season.  Everything She Wants got a sneak peek.

Urban Chic: Mix-and-match soft and edgy fabrics like sheer lace paired with a cropped sweater and lace-up booties; or the Material Girl-reminiscent faux leather vest and lace leggings look.

Hippie Chick: Flowing floral dresses, fringe and faux fur vests, floppy hats, and feather earrings are some of the key pieces for this bohemian trend.

Romantic Times: Be a trendsetter by pairing a lace top and cropped jacket and rhinestone accessories with funky animal print harem pants. Or achieve a vintage look in a lace top, skirt, and tights worn with a sequin jacket and flowery accessories.  Molly Ringwald circa Pretty in Pink would be proud.

It can be costly to get get a professional wax, and with the Bliss Poetic Waxing At-Home Hair Removal Kit you can get similar head-to-toe results at home.  I'm a fan of Bliss products, but haven't tried the kit yet.  So I suggest using it at least a couple times before the wedding.

Summer Shape Wear Secrets, Hello Skinny Britches!

Shape wear is great for slimming under tops and dresses.  Even in the summertime.  Here are a few pieces of shape wear that have saved me from discomfort and unsightly bulges.

Spanx Skinny Britches

Spanx Skinny Britches are the perfect solution to that irritating (literally) thigh rubbage that often happens to me (you too?) when I wear skirts in the heat and humidity.  The light-weight, sheer britches are surprisingly cool and comfortable and come in a selection of neutral and fashion colors.

Yummie Tummie Original Tank

Yummie Tummie's Original Tank is a summer wardrobe staple.  The brand's patented "Happy Technology" focuses on the midsection and smoothes, slims and lifts without pinching, rubbing or riding. And I barely break a sweat while wearing this cool tank.

Body Wrap Shapewear's Lift & Hide Cami

Body Wrap Shapewear's Sheer Iridesscent line brings a sexy, lingerie touch to every day shape wear. The Lift & Hide Cami in Diva Dot Black has a built-in, molded under-wire bra and can be worn under your clothes to enhance, compress and lift; as a cute bustier top peeking from under a linen blazer; or for play time after hours.

Summer Treat: Skip Ice Cream, Try Soft Serve Fruit

This time of year we all scream for ice cream (or at least Pinkberry).  But how about trying a non-dairy, fat-free and gluten-free frozen treat?

With one location on the Upper East Side (1371 Third Avenue @ 78th Street) and another on the way in Union Square, the Soft Serve Fruit Co serves all-natural soft serve fruit made from three simple ingredients: fresh fruit puree, filtered water and a touch of organic cane sugar.

Co-owner Chloe Epstein wanted her business "to be a place you can trust for wholesome food."  She also wanted to provide a natural alternative for kids and adults with a sweet tooth.  Summer seasonal varieties include banana, mango, strawberry, and pear.  During autumn, cranberry and pumpkin are favorites.

Everything She Wants tried the yummy soft serve banana in a gourmet pretzel cone.  And with less than 90 calories in a 3.5 oz cup serving, I'll be back for more.

Customers can select a variety of preservative-free toppings ranging from fresh fruit and granola to hot organic peanut butter and maple syrup.  Sundaes, smoothies and popsicles are also available.
