E.l.f. Budget Makeup Helps Fight Acne

It's hard to put your best face forward when your acne flares up. And for women like me, who are way beyond their teen years, adult acne is particularly pesky. So what's a girl to do?

e.l.f. Mineral Blemish Kit
For a long-term acne solution, it's best to see a dermatologist or skincare specialist.  But in the meantime, Everything She Wants suggests picking up a good over-the-counter acne remedy and concealer.

Luckily, my favorite budget makeup brand, e.l.f. (eyes, lips, face) has several options:

Heal and hide breakouts with the e.l.f. Mineral Blemish Kit ($8), a translucent powder with natural acne fighting ingredients like sulfur, tea tree and willow bark.  The kit treats acne and prevents future breakouts while penetrating into the pores to control blackheads. Use the sheer powder day and night with the handy concealer brush included.

E.l.f.'s weightless mineral concealer ($5) comes in five shades from Fair to Deep, and all the colors seamlessly blend to match your skin tone.  The concealer contains SPF 15 and is free of parabens, preservatives and chemical dyes.

And for only a buck each, you can try out e.l.f.'s Zit Zapper with a unique blend of salicylic acid, tea tree oil, witch hazel and camphor to, well, zap zits; Essential Tone Correcting Concealer to cover unwanted blemishes and imperfections using a multi-tonal silicone treatment; and Essential All Over Cover Stick infused with natural ingredients and skin polymers.

Big Sale Alert: Until Monday, Nov. 7, save 40% off anything in e.l.f.'s gift section when you enter the promo code, GIFTFAVES.

Conway Discount Clothing Chain Closing in New York City

(Tracy E. Hopkins) It's the end of a budget shopping era. Conway discount stores are closing in New York City . As of this weekend, a sign on the sole Herald Square location (34th Street btwn 7th and 8th Ave) says the store will close in "7 Days." Before I relocated to the Big Apple, I was introduced to the discount chain while on a bus trip from Baltimore.  I recall the first time I saw Conway's signature pink bags carried by hurried shoppers in midtown. And Miss Foster, the trip organizer and a bargain hunter from way back, took me to the store for the first time. Conway store in the Fulton Mall./Tracy E. Hopkins When I moved here in 1994, my love affair with Conway continued.  I furnished my first apartment with discount knick-knacks and home goods from the store.  And much to my chagrin, in hindsight, I curated most of my wardrobe for my first full-time job from the long-shuttered 42nd Street and Third Avenue store. One regretful ensemble: Lime green and
